I wanted my child to feel at home in music.

To hear a tune and sing it back. To sit at a piano and be curious about what comes next. To feel the joy of making music with someone else.

That’s the gift I wanted to give my child: an ear for music, and all the doors it might open.

I wanted to give that hope a foundation: a rich world of sound to grow up hearing. So I built EarlyEars around music with layers to discover: melodies woven together, shifting harmonies and notes heard in new company. That richness is the heart of the app.

I made it for my child. Now I’m opening it up to yours, whatever your musical background and wherever you hope music might take them.

Little ears.
A richer world of music.

Children’s music training often starts with simple tunes, games and getting the right answer. EarlyEars starts with listening: complex compositions, interweaving melodies and harmonies across all 24 major and minor keys. Musical depth is there from the beginning.

The visuals bring calm, with a choice of visualisers and a consistent colour for each of the 12 tones. Or let the music stand on its own with audio-only listening. Whether you hope for a lifelong love of music or accomplished musicianship, this is a place to begin, whatever your own musical background.

Fits the day you already have

A world of music.
As simple as pressing play.

Whether you’re a musician or have never played a note, you can give your child access to the same musical depth. Open the iOS app, press play and choose how they experience it: with calming visuals or through sound alone.

Press play

Start with a moment you already share.

Make space for listening during quiet play or time together. All that musical richness is there to hear, with no need to watch a screen.

Find their visualiser

Different ways to watch the music unfold.

Explore a wide choice of calming visualisers to find one that works for your child. Across them all, each of the 12 tones has its own consistent colour, connecting what they see with what they hear.

Or simply listen

All the music. Screen optional.

Prefer a screen-free approach? Use EarlyEars for audio-only listening. The same complex compositions are there in full, with no need to follow a visualiser or interact with the screen.

Layers of music.
More for the ear to discover.

One melody winds around another. A changing chord brings a different shade of feeling. A familiar pattern returns with a new turn. EarlyEars brings these details together in complex compositions, full of layers and changing musical relationships.

EarlyEars organises that richness around clear pitches and key centres, exploring all 24 major and minor keys. The aim is to make musical depth part of your child’s earliest listening.

12 tonesA colour for each

Each tone has a colour of its own.

Each of the 12 tones keeps its particular colour across every visualiser, in high and low registers and on different instruments. The visuals are calming, with plenty of styles to explore and find the right fit for your child.

24 keysMajor + minor

More music to feel at home in.

Complex compositions explore every major and minor key, weaving melodies and harmonies together. Named notes and chords played one note at a time also introduce the sounds within that wider musical world.

For the songs they’ll sing.
And the ones they might write.

Imagine them picking up a guitar to play with friends. Finding their own voice at the piano. Going deeper into the craft of performing or composing. A place for music in their life can take so many forms.

You can hold big hopes for their musicianship and enjoy the small moments along the way. Their interests, practice and experiences will shape where they go. EarlyEars is designed to offer a foundation through rich musical listening now.

About the EarlyEars music app

Who is EarlyEars for?

EarlyEars is designed for babies and young children to enjoy with a parent or carer. It starts with listening, before children need to follow instructions, play musical games or learn an instrument. Parents do not need any musical experience.

Can my child listen without watching a screen?

Yes. Audio-only listening offers the same complete compositions without watching a visualiser or interacting with the screen. If you choose visuals, each of the 12 tones has a consistent colour across the different visualisers.

What kind of music does EarlyEars play?

EarlyEars plays complex compositions with interweaving melodies and changing harmonies across all 24 major and minor keys. The focus is on discovering a rich world of music through listening, with no quizzes, scores or correct answers.

Is EarlyEars a music lesson or ear-training game?

EarlyEars offers musical listening rather than formal lessons or note-identification exercises. It is designed to make music familiar from the earliest years. Every child’s musical journey is different; the app does not promise perfect pitch or any particular musical outcome.

Could EarlyEars help my child develop perfect pitch?

Perfect pitch - the ability to name a note without a reference tone - was actually the spark that led me to create EarlyEars. I was fascinated by the idea of giving each pitch a consistent colour, so a child could encounter the same connection again and again. That relationship between sound and colour remains at the heart of the app: each of the 12 tones has its own colour across every visualiser.

It’s an idea I find promising and worth exploring, but I don’t make any claims about how effective EarlyEars is at developing perfect pitch. There is research on children learning absolute pitch through structured training with colour-coded chords, but that involved active identification exercises. It doesn’t establish that listening with EarlyEars’ pitch–colour visuals will produce the same result.

As I’ve developed the app, I’ve come to care more about the broader musical beginning I can offer my child. Perfect pitch may be less important than growing up with complex, richly layered music as part of everyday life: melodies, harmonies and musical relationships to become familiar with during those formative years. That’s the experience I want EarlyEars to offer, wherever their musical journey leads.
